T stands for Taigo

Taigo derives its name from a combination of ‘tiger’ and ‘Taiga’, which is a forest in the Northern Hemisphere. Taigo symbolises strength, outdoors and adventure. The SUV’s name starts with the letter ‘T’ and follows Volkswagen’s naming convention for its SUVs in South Africa.

Compact SUV coupé

The new Volkswagen Taigo impresses with its trendy crossover body style, raised seating position and pioneering connectivity. Numerous driver assistance systems guarantee comfort and a high level of safety for all passengers. With full LED headlights, a digital cockpit and the latest generation of infotainment systems, the Taigo sets high technology standards in its class. The Taigo will be offered with Volkswagen’s popular tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof. The Volkswagen Taigo will only be available with the 1.0 TSI 85kW DSG® engine.

Design

Expressive form the start

With a coupé-like shape, no wonder the Taigo is unique. The car’s sloping roofline leads to a spoiler on the rear highlighting its sporty appearance. A side view of the Taigo is characterised by defining lines guiding your eyes seamlessly from the front to the back of the exterior. The stylish honeycomb grille connects the matrix LED headlights framing the front of the car and its expansive width. Illuminated light strips in both the front and rear of the exterior give it a polished look making it almost impossible to ignore its design-orientated appearance. The logo projection lighting epitomises the car’s modern expression giving it its Volkswagen personality.

Tech meets taste

The soft-touch dashboard accentuates the car’s comfortable and welcoming interior, combined with high-quality technology, taking the car to the next level. The digital Infotainment system with a 6.5-inch radio display on the Life model and an 8-inch radio display on the Style and R-Line models, digital cockpit and Beats® sound system* allow for a driving experience personified by your taste.

IQ.DRIVE and technology

With IQ.DRIVE, trust your Taigo’s got your back. This intuitive technology comes with features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). ACC can maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front by automatically braking and starting up again when sitting in traffic, making it a driver’s best friend. ACC can also work in conjunction with Lane Assist to form Travel Assist, making your journey safer.

More anticipatory driving than ever before.

Thanks to Forward Collision Warning Front Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, your Taigo can help reduce the severity of the accident or, ideally, avoid the accident in the event of a collision threat. It can detect pedestrians and vehicles on the road and warn the driver in time. If the driver does not react the system can initiate emergency braking.

Front Assist

Stay in your lane

As you embark on the journey ahead, a slight distraction is only human. Thankfully, the new Taigo comes with the option of a system camera that recognizes visible lane markings and uses a special algorithm to determine the vehicle’s position in the lane. If your Taigo crosses a lane marking without you using a turn signal, the system provides a visual signal in the instrument cluster, asking you to take over, so you can stay in your lane no matter what.

Park Assist

Fit into any space

Park Assist automatically guides the Taigo into perpendicular or parallel parking spaces and can reverse the car out of the latter as well. The system is activated by pressing a button on the centre console. Using the indicators, the driver selects the side on which the vehicle is to be parked. Once Park Assist finds sufficient parking space, using the ultrasound sensors, assisted parking can begin. The driver selects reverse gear and only has to accelerate and brake in a controlled manner. The system takes over steering.
